This course introduces modern digital fabrication technologies as methods of creating physical form from information. Through the use of scriptable computer aided design software and programming languages such as Processing and Python, it is possible to visualize programming structures or datasets as 3D objects. Students with a wide range of interests and skills are invited to experiment with a variety of free and commercial software packages to generate models that can subsequently be realized as physical objects. The course will explore the use of 3d printers and laser cutters in the creation of physical form using both standard and unconventional materials and will focus on experimentation with processes rather than following traditional modes of fabrication.
